Barcode Printer

The most common barcode printers are one of two models: direct thermal, or thermal transfer. Direct thermal printers use heat, applied to the print-head, to change the color of the label, and blacken the areas that should contain information. Thermal transfer printers heat a wax or resin, and apply the heated wax or resin to a ribbon, which applies it to the label.

Direct thermal printers are less expensive, but because the labels are heat-sensitive, if they are exposed to heat, sunlight, or chemicals, the labels may continue to blacken, and become unreadable. Keep the environmental conditions of your business in mind when determining which type of barcode printer fits your business needs.
